In the last post we saw about Mobile Application Management (MAM) which enables the organizations to handle multiple mobile apps. In this post, let us take a look at Mobile Device Management (MDM). With mobility gaining significant traction, there is proliferation of mobile devices with different operating systems. As these devices make way into the enterprises, there has to be an effective solution to manage these devices. That’s where a MDM comes in. A typical MDM solution should be device agnostic, accounting for any number of devices & platforms. The mobile devices used can either be owned by the enterprise or by the employee.
Mobile Device Management – Features
Device Provisioning: The devices sprawling the enterprises should be activated and provisioned to suit the corporate network. Device registrations, configurations, authentications have to be the first step in an MDM solution.
Application Provisioning: Once the devices are authorized into the network, appropriate applications have to be bundled along with specific configurations. Updates of the app are done on the device through a central control. Not all applications over the network are provisioned here. Hence the Mobile Application Management was devised to cater to all kinds of applications.
Data Protection: Data, both on the device and while accessing the network, has to be protected at any instant. Data encryption, Backup and restore and data tracking form the major part of data protection.
